The four houses symbolize the way my client lives her lifestyle. I wanted to bring the thought of her lover enclosing her in his wings into the design of the four houses. The shape is formed in a way which shows characteristics of wings. Each of the walls grow from the ground upwards and then expand to create the technique and nature of the four residents. A wing can be defined in many ways. It is a surface used to produce lift and therefore flight. I wanted to generate an area inside of each house for them to sleep in. These rooms are conveyed in a way which resemble her being embraced in her lovers wings. I created a small and an enclosed costraphobic room for them to sleep in, which keeps them away from the outside world and away from all of the problems they face in life. The outside shape for each of the four houses form into the middle and blend together to produce the technique and nature of the houses, connecting them all together. The midpoint is where each wing of the four houses peak up to meet and display the connection between them. I also displayed light piercing through the wings which enabled a variety of different shadows and casts of light throughout each space. Wings have layers, and from an aerial perspective I wanted to show the act of layering throughout my design which gives an interesting effect and interacts all of the houses together. At the start of my design process I played with paper modelling and sketch up models to gather a technique of how to display wings into a functional design, and the way in which these forms cast light and shadows.
